Chester VT, now just a little bit greener!
As we started the a new year, like most of you, my thoughts of new "goals" were simply reaching for the stars... In 2008, I would like make a greater contribution to our associations efforts to improve upon the condition of our environment locally and reduce the footprint that our businesses will leave behind on our State, our Country and the World...
On November 13th 2007, the Chester Innkeepers Association adopted by unanimous vote, policies which require members to maintain registered status with Green Hotels In The Green Mountain State; a state run program who set and maintain the standards and guidelines for Vermont Green Hotel designations. Unlike many other State run eco programs (throughout the USA) who simply require proprietors to fill out a series of documents to gain approval as eco-friendly, the Vermont State program actually requires an on-site property assessment and property owners/managers to maintain an approved Environmental Management Plan, which is subject to review and updating once a year. This was the first step in a series of planned efforts as Green Hotels of Vermont, to make greater our collective contribution to protecting the environment.
Throughout 2008, we intend to utilize this website to share links, in a quarterly newsletter highlighting eco-products and services with you - why not bookmark this site or join our mailing list, so you don't miss an issue.
In 2008, the Chester Innkeepers Association hopes to expand its local efforts including continued sponsoring of the Chester Map and the Chester Green Business Alliance (which encourages all local businesses to join us in going green). We also hope to reach goals that have been discussed within our group, such as tree planting, neighborhood clean-up, expanding eco-friendly tourism through sponsorship of local events & related businesses and so much more.
